Guilty Crown is a 2011 sci-fi anime series that aired on Fuji TV's noitaminA program block. The anime is produced by Production I.G and directed by Tetsurō Araki with script supervision by Hiroyuki Yoshino,

The mechanical designs were provided by Atsushi Takeuchi and prop designs by Yō Moriyama. Art direction was handled by Yusuke Takeda with original character designs by Redjuice and Hiromi Katō adapting the character designs for the anime.

Set in the year 2039, Japan is the under the rule of a multinational military force called GHQ after the country wt into chaos due to the Lost Christmas incidt t years prior to the start of the series, wh a giant outbreak of an ali virus called the Apocalypse Virus spreads during Christmas, causing the United Nations to sd GHQ to contain the outbreak and restore order. The series follows Shu Ouma, an intelligt yet socially awkward teager who finds himself caught in the war betwe GHQ and Funeral Parlor (Undertakers), a resistance organization led by Gai Tsutsugami, which aims to liberate Japan from GHQ, wh he meets Inori Yuzuriha, the famous Internet Singer of the band Egoist and a member of the Undertakers. Due to various circumstances, Shu acquires a getic weapon called the Void Gome, also known as Power of the King, which allows him to extract Voids, objects with special properties that reflect the personality of their owners from underage individuals. With his new powers, Shu joins Funeral Parlor to protect Inori and learns secrets and mysteries he never knew.

The anime aired on Fuji TV's noitaminA program block from October 13, 2011, to March 22, 2012. The first oping theme song from episode 2 to 12 is My Dearest by Supercell with vocals by Koeda and the first ding theme song from episode 1 to 12 is Departures ~Anata ni Okuru Ai no Uta~ (Departures ~あなたにおくるアイの歌~ , lit. Departures (Sd your Love Song)) by Supercell under the name Egoist with vocals by Chelly, the fictional band within the series. The second oping theme song from episode 13 to 22 is The Everlasting Guilty Crown by Egoist with vocals by Chelly and the second ding song from episode 13 to 21 is Kokuhaku (告白 , lit. Confession) by Supercell with vocals by Koeda.

In 2039, Shu Ouma is a socially awkward studt living in Japan, where it is under the strict rule of the governmt organization named GHQ following the outbreak of the Apocalypse Virus t years earlier. While going to his warehouse studio, he counters Inori Yuzuriha, an internet singer of the band Egoist, who is recovering from her wounds after stealing the Void Gome, a getic weapon stored in a vial, from GHQ, keeping it safe inside her pet robot Funell. Inori is th captured by the GHQ Anti-Bodies division led by Major Guin. To make amds upon her request, Shu brings the Void Gome to Inori's boss, Gai Tsutsugami, leader of the resistance group called Funeral Parlor (Undertakers). However, Guin orders the Anti-Bodies to exterminate the residts of Roppongi in order to find the Void Gome. As Funeral Parlor and GHQ battle, Shu goes to rescue Inori, protecting her wh a GHQ humanoid war machine known as an dlave tries to attack them. The attack shatters the vial holding the Void Gome, giving Shu the Power of the King, which he uses to extract Inori's Void, in the form of a sword, in order to destroy the dlave.

Wh GHQ Second Lieutant Daryl Yan, operating the dlave Steiner, arrives and interves, Shu is forced to retreat with Inori and regroup with Funeral Parlor. After commding hacker Tsugumi and paraplegic dlave pilot Ayase Shinomiya for their hard work, Gai not only lectures Inori for allowing Shu to absorb the Void Gome since the former had intded to use it, but he also states that Shu can no longer stand idly by with the power the latter now possesses. Later, Funeral Parlor proceeds to stop Guin, who took a group of innoct civilians hostage to have Daryl and the Anti-Bodies execute them. Funeral Parlor launches an attack and tricks Daryl to drive his dlave Steiner away from Guin's command cter to hijack it. Gai th reveals himself and has a standoff with Guin, in which Shu heads toward Daryl, cutting through his cockpit and extracts his Void, a weapon that produces myriad of barriers. As the standoff reaches its climax, Guin orders his m to fire at Gai, however Shu uses Daryl's Void to shield Gai and deflect the lasers fired, annihilating Guin and the Anti-Bodies. In the aftermath, despite witnessing the atrocities GHQ are responsible for and what Funeral Parlor stands for, Shu declines Gai's offer to join them. The next day, Shu is surprised to learn that Inori has transferred into his school.

Shu is still shocked that not only has Inori transferred to his school but is living at his home as well. Meanwhile, GHQ Anti-Bodies Director Shuichiro Keido tasks GHQ Major Makoto Waltz Segai to track a series of hotspots where a getic drug called the Norma Ge is being distributed. After Shu learns that Inori was st to protect him, the two meet up with Gai, who reveals that a studt at Shu's school, who is secretly a drug dealer for the Norma Ge nicknamed Sugar, saw him during the Roppongi incidt. After Gai confirms that he can see other people's Voids, Inori th teaches the basic principles of drawing out Voids to Shu, who confronts his classmates one by one, checking for a Void in the form of a pair of shears held by Sugar. After several failures, Shu soon figures out Sugar is actually his frid Yahiro Samukawa, since his calm demeanor does not match his tastes in movies, thereby exposing his idtity. Shu subdues an angry Yahiro by extracting his Void, but stops Inori from killing Yahiro. Wh Yahiro awaks, he and Shu both resolve to keep each other's secrets. However, Yahiro turns on Shu the next day by selling him out to GHQ, and Shu is th approached by Segai.

Shu is apprehded by Segai in front of his classmates and is tak to GHQ Isolation Facility Four, where he remains silt about Funeral Parlor. As Segai is taking Shu to the isolation ward, he reveals that Yahiro's younger brother is receiving treatmt at the facility due to being a victim of the Apocalypse Virus, for this is the reason for why Yahiro ratted Shu out. However, Segai dismays Shu wh mtioning that Gai plans to rescue a mass murderer named Kji Kido, giving Shu a transmitter, in the shape of a p, to use wh he comes in contact with Gai. Later that night, Gai, disguised as a lawyer, visits Shu to involve him in rescuing Kji, but Shu rejects assistance. As the facility's alarm suddly goes off, Tsugumi informs the two that Inori has brok into the facility and plans to rescue Shu herself, ignoring orders. Gai is forced to change his group's plan of action against the GHQ dlaves wh Shu goes to save her. On the way there, after Ayase protects him from harm, Shu counters Kji, extracting and using his Void, in the form of a gravity manipulation device, to stop the GHQ dlaves and rescue Inori. Following the facility's destruction, Shu once again is offered to join Gai and reluctantly accepts, however he keeps Segai's transmitter and does not inform Gai of their exchange.

Anime

Shu is brought to Funeral Parlor Headquarters at Roppongi Fort, where Gai plans to hold a trial for Shu before he can officially join this resistant group. While preparing to lead a mission to take over the Leukocyte, Gai assigns Ayase to instruct Shu in training him for the trial. Ayase holds onto his p, unaware that it is a transmitter, using this as motivation. After a day of hard training with members Argo Tsukishima and Oogumo, Shu counters Inori, realizing that Gai was the one who told her to convince him to join Funeral Parlor. After Inori ter Gai's room, a dejected Shu bumps into Ayase, who consoles and reinvigorates him for his trial. Unknown to them, however, Inori is actually giving Gai a blood transfusion. On the day of trial, Shu has a mock battle with Ayase, where the goal is to get past and into the vehicle placed behind her dlave Steiner. After going to Argo to extract and use his Void, in the form of a flashlight that temporarily brings out blinding darkness, Shu manages to succeed the task and receives his p back as his reward for passing the trial. Tsugumi gives the members a troubling report that Gai, who earlier led a team to intercept the arrival of mercaries at an airport and confiscate their supplies, was attacked by the Leukocyte, an orbital satellite laser.
