Because This Is My First Life Parents Guide

Because This Is My First Life Parents Guide

It’s December! And guess what’s occupying most of my freetime? Kdramas! My November has been filled with Kdramas.  For the past month, I’ve watched four: While You Were Sleeping, Reply 1994, Because This is My First Life and the currently airing Nothing to Lose. While You Were Sleeping was one of the most anticipated dramas of 2017, with Lee Jong-suk and Bae Suzy as leads, kdrama fans sure have high expectations. But don’t worry chingus, WYWS did not disappoint!

WYWS was such a superb drama, I swear. Every episode had me on the edge of my seat. It was a suspense-filled drama, with an incredible story-line, lots of kilig scenes ( kilig is a Filipino word. It’s used when you’re feeling a rush of excitement when watching/experiencing something romantic. I hope I explained that right hehe.) But I don’t know why I suddenly stopped when I finished Episode 24 (Don’t worry guys, I finished WYWS, but just recently).

Review

I was watching some kdrama clips on social media, and I encountered one video clip of Because This Is My First Life. It was the clip where Ji Ho and See Hee (The main characters) were inside an elevator. And from there, my interest was sparked. Not just sparked. “My interest was sparked, doused in kerosene and ignited by a million matches.” I’m sorry I inserted that quote, but it describes exactly how I felt that moment. And for anyone wondering, these awesome words are from the brilliant writer, Jessica Katoff. Check out her works guys, they’re absolutely amazing, I promise!

Moments With Mother Culture®: To All Unorthodox Teachers

So I looked up this drama on the internet and walaaaa—-I was hooked. It was only 10 episodes when I started watching and I watched it non-stop. And I was giddy with excitement when I saw the teaser for Episode 11! Yeah chingus, this drama is that awesome.

So because I was too hooked on this drama that I kinda lost interest on watching the new episodes of WYWS. My hype on watching WYWS died down because my mind couldn’t get over BTMFL. My brain suffered from a major drama hangover that I can’t watch any other drama. WYWS was really good I swear but I don’t know why I couldn’t make myself watch any other drama.. Once I’m hooked, there’s no coming back. So for quite some time, this is the only drama I was watching. From week to week I patiently waited for each episode to air. It was such a pain, I tell you!

Yoon Ji ho is a 30-year-old struggling script writer. One disappointing night in Ji ho’s life, she met a very unemotional guy who said something that lifted up her spirits. Due to the myriad of disappointments and down sides in her life, Ji ho decided to take a leap. She suddenly did something she hadn’t done in her entire life—that is, to kiss a stranger.

Among Us: What Parents Need To Know About The Video Game

By the twist of fate, Ji ho again met this stranger. And fate really is teasing our Ji ho because this stranger suddenly turned out to be her landlord! Fate is not just a tease, it is mad! Because by sudden turn of events, these two ended up marrying each other—marriage for convenience, that is. Living with the stranger whom she kissed would be terrible, but marrying Nam See hee, the guy with no emotions and only cares about his house, his loan and his cat is unimaginable.

I’ll be discussing five important aspects to better convince you guys that this drama is indeed awesome as I claim it to be:

Age Range : This drama would be suitable for ages 25 to late 30s. But those not within that age bracket can still watch it, even teenagers..but they won’t really appreciate it that much. This drama was a mixture of comedic, heartwarming, and most of the times, serious scenes. At the end of every episode, you’ll learn a lesson or two about life. This story is full of, um, drama.. So I think some teenagers would not appreciate it. Teens would prefer dramas like Weightlifting fairy Kim Bok Jo, Strong woman Do bong son or the School series. Those lightweight dramas specifically targeting the younger audiences.

Because This Is My First Life (tv Series 2017)

Why 25 to late 30s? and not 20s to 40s? Yeah I kinda had a deep thought on this one—nah, not really.. But I think that from age 25 to late 30s, you’ll start assessing your life. Whether you’ve reached the goals you’ve set when you were just starting or whether you have achieved something in life that you could be proud of. At this age, you’ll start questioning your previous decisions. This is actually a crucial stage in life because people will expect you to have achieved something and the most horrifying part—-they expect you to get married! All these things are tackled in this drama. Watching this drama felt like having someone patting your back while saying, it’s okay, you’re not alone.

REVIEW:

Pacing : The pacing of this drama is slow..It has taken 10 episodes before Ji ho and Se hee had their first real kiss. But it hadn’t caused any problem for me. It was the way of the drama. The development of the characters’ feelings was gradual too, which made it more realistic. Slowly, they have grown into each other’s hearts. Whirlwind romance is not my thing, I always find it awkward if the characters are already in love in just 2 or 3 episodes. I believe Love takes time. Even the characters’ monologues and sometimes dialogues were slow. But I think every episode was made more dramatic because of the slow-pacing coupled with some dramatic background music. Only in this drama did I find slow pacing tolerable. Because in any other drama, either I would stop watching or skip a few episodes.

Acting: I think the actors in this drama performed pretty well. But this just my opinion of course. Lee Min-ki did well on this drama. His portrayal of the poker-faced/unemotional Nam See hee was awesome. It was yet the best poker-faced character I ever watched. Jung So-min, the actress who played Yoon Ji-ho also did well. I could almost feel Ji ho’s pains and struggles.

Because This Is My First Life / Characters

Characters: The characters were relatable. Yoon Ji-ho’s struggles were all too familiar, you could be having flash backs of your own struggles while watching her. Even the side characters were relatable too. Characters who struggles around the frustrations of marriage, dating, self-worth and broken dreams..Oh dear, tell me how can we not see ourselves in them?

And there were a few times that you could relate even with the poker-faced Nam See hee. I think most of us have a painful past we do not dare share to anyone.

KDrama

Storyline: The story line was centered around dreams, marriage and responsibilites. Basically, this drama is about real life. On how to handle a marriage without love and its consequences. And the realization that marriage and love are two different things. This is about reality. No chaebols, no hidden birth mysteries, no aegyo, no magic, just plain reality. At the surface, you may think that this is boring. But no! Relatable stories stay with the viewers even after the drama has ended. And even if the plot looked plain, the delivery was not. Even if this is a serious drama, it’s full of funny, quirky scenes specially around See hee. And be ready to squeal for the kilig scenes! They’re few but very squeal-worthy. Every episode was well-thought of. I admire the writer of this drama. How they relate a line in a book to the whole episode and to the episode’s title is just amazing. I got to sigh in awe after finishing each episode.

My First First Love (tv Series 2019)

This drama is one of the best kdrama I’ve ever watched. It has too many feels..too many lessons..too many heartaches.. My heart was not ready when I was watching the last episode. I did not want it to end! I will surely miss this quirky couple, Ji ho and Se hee.

I will give this drama a rating of 5/5, not just because this is my first kdrama review, but because this is just plain brilliant, awesome, wonderful… and all those similar words you could find in the dictionary!

Because this is my first kdrama review, I hope this did not confuse you or something. I tried not to describe some scenes because I’m afraid I’ll be spoiling it for you chingus. I hate spoilers, you know.  I hope you enjoyed reading this review and see you on my next kdrama escapade!!

My First Summer (2020)

“There’s a side which you never wish to show others… no matter how close you are with them. Sometimes, your family can be the least close people to you. When I decided to follow my dream, I thought my life would be like walking through a dark tunnel. But I didn’t know it was going to be… this dark. I didn’t know it was going to be this lonely.”

“Words are born from people’s mouths and die in their ears. But some words don’t die. They go into people’s hearts and survive.”
