The biggest Dragon Ball movie yet is out in theaters now as Goku and Vegeta defend the Earth (and Universe) from the crazy strength of Legendary Super Saiyan, Broly.
While a good portion of the film is pure, frenetic, chaotic action there is a bunch of world-building done in one hour and 40 minutes. There's plenty to get through in Dragon Ball Super: Broly so here's the ending explained, and what it means for the franchise moving forward.

Most of the Z-Fighters on Earth sit this battle out and for good reason— Saiyans are the only ones equipped to deal with Saiyans. So the focus of the film is on Goku and Vegeta.
When fans first see the duo, they are sparring with Beerus as Whis looks on. Whis asks both men why they continue to train and get stronger.
Series. With so many other fighters out there, he wants to fight them all and test his skills. Jiren is even shown.

Broly Vs Broly (dragon Ball Z Vs Super)
Movie, we find Frieza does still hold a grudge against the Saiyans but does not want to fight them just yet. He does, however, want the Dragon Balls, so he sends lackeys to find them on Earth.
But Frieza doesn't want immortality. His reasoning and actual wish request are pretty out there and comedic (and doesn't affect the plot) so you'll have to watch the film to find out what it is for yourself.
Although Frieza doesn't get a lot of action scenes in the film, he's clearly outclassed by the Saiyans. When the conflict is over, Frieza gets away but it's clear he isn't done with Goku and Vegeta yet.
If Dragon Ball Super: Broly Came Out In 2007
Continuity. After years on an uninhabited planet with his father (they were sent there by Vegeta's father) they are saved by the Frieza Force. Broly's latent power was always a concern for the Saiyans, but Frieza wants to use it to take out Goku and Vegeta.
Paragus, Broly's father, wants his revenge on Vegeta for what King Vegeta did so they agree to work with Frieza. However, it's obvious from the start that Goku and Vegeta's power and experience are too much for Broly.
Fortunately for Broly, his ability to learn is faster than even that of Goku and Vegeta, and despite never turning Super Saiyan he is able to go toe-to-toe with them. There's even moments where Broly gets the upper hand, causing Vegeta and Goku to go through their various transformations.

After he's defeated, Broly's friends Cheelai and Lemo (who were part of Frieza's army) use the Dragon Balls to send themselves and the Legendary Saiyan back to the planet Broly grew up on.
The three make camp and decide to live there in solitude when Goku appears before them using his Instant Transmission technique. He offers to help them and tells Broly that he wants to train with him so he can learn a thing or two.
Unfortunately, Frieza's forces know where Broly is but they decide not to pursue him. He wants Cheelai and Lemo to domesticate Broly so he can be controlled. This is probably not the last we'll see of Broly or Frieza.
