Zootopia 2 was officially announced by Disney CEO Bob Iger. And while no release date is officially known, fans can expect plenty as Walt Disney Animation takes audiences back into this animated world.
Zootopia debuted in 2016 to critical acclaim, telling the story of Judy Hopps (played by Ginnifer Goodwin) as she aimed to become the first rabbit to join the police force. The stellar voice cast was rounded out by the likes of Jason Bateman, Idris Elba, and Jenny Slate and was directed by Byron Howard and Rich Moore.

Disney has since announced a Disney+ spin-off show titled Zootopia+ (which released in Fall 2022) as well as a full-fledged theatrical sequel (which was unveiled alongside Toy Story 5 and Frozen 3).
Zootopia Movie Review And Ratings By Kids
No official release timing for Zootopia 2 has been announced by Disney yet, but there are three dates on the studio's release calendar that fans should circle as perfect candidates for the animated sequel.
All three fall a year apart right before the Thanksgiving holiday weekend in the United States. So it feels like just a matter of how long it will take to develop Zootopia 2 to predict the exact release.
One also must remember Walt Disney Animation also has Frozen 3 and Frozen 4 to fit into that calendar, both of which have been confirmed to be in development.
Why A Nick & Judy Romance In Zootopia 2 Is A Bad Idea
Seeing as Disney is hurting for an animated hit, the upcoming third installment in the hit Frozen franchise will likely come before Zootopia 2. So, perhaps Frozen 3 may take the 2024 date, provided it will be ready in time, leaving Zootopia 2 to arrive on November 25, 2025.
In an exclusive interview with The Direct, Zootopia producer Brad Simonsen bigged up the sequel and promised it will take it to another level:
“We're all super excited about it. And it's a world that I was part of the first movie, and it was one of the most amazing experiences in my life, to be honest. And I know that this next one's going to take it to another level and be, as you know, as good or better than the first. So we're super excited about that project.”Who’s Cast in Zootopia 2?
Zootopia' Is A Movie Every Kid Should Take Their Parent To See
At the time of writing, no casting announcements have been made for the Zootopia sequel; however, there are a few unconfirmed elements fans can expect.
Both Jason Bateman as Nick Wilde and Ginnifer Goodwin as Officer Judy Hopps are expected to return in the upcoming sequel, as the pair also appeared in the Zootopia spin-off series, Zootopia+.
One could also imagine Disney will want to get the band back together from the original film, potentially bringing back directing duo Byron Howard and Rich Moore to helm the big-screen sequel.
Disney Reveals “zootopia 2” Release Date
Zootopia+ follows six separate stories that take place during the events of the first film. Trent Correy and Josie Trinidad, who worked as an animator and head of story for the film, respectively, sat in the directing chair for the series.
While the streaming show continued elements from the original film, it is no Zootopia 2, as the sequel will be a full-on follow-up rather than supplemental storytelling told within the confines of the original film.

So far, there has been no word on any more episodes of Zootopia+ coming to fruition, with the focus at the moment on developing Zootopia 2.
Zootopia: A Kids Movie With Lessons For Us All
As Season 1 told stories during the events of the original movie, perhaps Season 2 could come to pass after Zootopia 2 to tell more stories that this time supplement the plot of the undated sequel.
Given Disney's previous track record of numbering its animated sequels (i.e. Frozen 2, Toy Story 4), one should expect the Zootopia follow-up to be titled Zootopia 2; however, there is always the possibility of a sub-title as well.
IMDb initially listed the film as Zootopia 2: Rise of the Mammalians. But that title was proven to be false and only based on fan art for the upcoming sequel.
Zootopia Kids Dress
After becoming close friends throughout the first film, many will wonder if the relationship between Ginnifer Goodwin's Judy and Jason Bateman's Nick has turned romantic since then, potentially even leading to the pair having kids.
Previously speaking on the subject with EW, co-director Rich Moore revealed that if/when they do more, they will have to take on [the question] of the two main character's relationship.

“We will have to take on [the question], what is Nick and Judy’s relationship like? And somebody’s going to be disappointed. It will either be romantic, or it will stay a friendship, and those who ship [them] are going to go crazy, and those who just want them to be friends will say, ‘Why did you make it a romance?’ So we need to gird ourselves for that.”

, Disney's new animated detective story about a rabbit cop, a con artist fox, and the animal-filled city they call home, have been overwhelmingly positive. The film's box office has been great too, with an opening weekend of more than $73 million in the US and Canada alone.
But those reviews don't just focus on the film's solid mystery, or its great gags, or even its terrific character work. Overwhelmingly, they praise the film's central message, one that aims to help kids confront issues of prejudice — and maybe even the roots of police brutality.

's status as a movie about a bunch of animals seems to undercut it, at least a little bit. It's impossible to escape the idea that regardless of the lessons
Teaches, the idea of some animals being predators and some being prey doesn't track very well against racial dynamics in our own world, thus creating a confusing moral.

The film centers on Judy Hopps, the first rabbit on Zootopia's police force. Over the course of the film, she is continually underestimated and overlooked, because a creature as small and non-vicious as a rabbit could never be a good police officer. But Judy longs to make the world a better place, and she's undeterred by those who think she's not cut out for the job.
Just Two Parents And Their Baby
Judy's journey roughly parallels those of women who are trailblazers in any field. She's frequently underestimated, simply by virtue of who she is, and she's more or less seen as a token hire by those who hold positions of authority within the police force. Crucially, however, Judy constantly being underestimated will also play well with kids, who might long to do great things but will always be shut out of adult spaces for obvious reasons. The way she's positioned as smaller and physically weaker is a classic example of a character who's meant to gain kids' sympathies.
But even if Judy is a minority in her workplace, she's part of the majority culture of Zootopia in another way: She's prey. Just like the animal kingdom, the city is 90 percent prey and 10 percent predators, and that means Judy and other prey animals have a lot of unexamined assumptions about the predators in their midst.
Late in the film, Judy discovers that several animals who have disappeared (the film's central mystery) are all predators who have gone savage, reverting to their animal roots (which the film posits the animal kingdom has evolved beyond) and attacking prey. She holds a press conference after seemingly cracking this case, suggesting the drive to attack smaller, weaker beings is simply part of a predator's biology, which causes the minority to suspect and fear the majority.

Her message isn't terribly subtle, but that's typical for a film like this. And in case kids aren't getting the point, Judy drives it home in a monologue to her friend Nick, a fox. It was wrong of her to assume something about him simply because he's a predator, especially in her position as a police officer.
But we also see this concept discussed from Nick's point of view, via a flashback to a painful childhood incident where he was invited to join a group analogous to the Boy Scouts, but then was muzzled because the prey animals who were his fellow members considered him too dangerous. It's a deeply sad moment, and

Might have boiled down a whole bunch of issues relating to prejudice and discrimination into its overarching predators versus prey dynamic, oversimplifying itself to a fault. But that allows its metaphor to be slippery enough to comment on all sorts of different topics.

And as anyone who's listened to fairy tales or fables knows, metaphors are how we tend to offer moral instruction through storytelling. Make this story too specific to human beings, and it runs the risk of being preachy or of having its message shrugged off. But tell it as a larger metaphor, and it's better able
