In the anime, within the Pseudo Universe, the Warrior in Black stands a top a building in West City while Goku runs down the streets below dodging various spaceship blasts being fired in his direction. Goku is contacted telepathically by Xeno Trunks who informs him that he is currently in the universe that Fu had created, a fake copy of the original Universe 7 that has no signs of life within but soon finds out the two universe are connected. Though not fully grasping the situation, Goku nevertheless flies away from the city.
Frieza and Meta-Cooler leave their ship and fly Goku down, kicking him to the ground. As Goku struggles to get to his feet, the two tyrants charge in for another attack only to be struck by Hearts Gravity Cage technique that pins the two to the ground. Goku is surprised to see Hearts, not knowing that he was still alive but Hearts points out his Halo above his head saying that he was instead freed from Hell by Demigra. Hearts asks Goku to join forces with him, needing his power and with the intention of taking down Fu and Goku agrees.
Frieza and Meta-Cooler re-emerge in their Golden states. Meta-Cooler points out that Hearts is an ally of Cumber who he still holds a grudge with and charges at Hearts in a rage. As Hearts and Meta-Cooler battle, Goku takes on Frieza, withstanding a powerful attack to enter into the Ultra Instinct Sign state where he quickly takes Frieza down. Suddenly, both Frieza and Meta-Cooler are given Dark Dragon Balls by an unknown assailant, the orb powers the two up dramatically as Goku and Hearts prepare for an even tougher fight.

From above they are all watched by the Crimson-Masked Saiyan who urges them to fight for his own upcoming plans. Empowered, Frieza and Meta-Cooler prove to be to much for Goku and Hearts to handle. However Broly unexpectedly appears, also having been swallowed up in this new universe and without warning, he charges forward and strikes a mighty blow to the midsections of both Goku and Hearts to knock them aside then turns around to face Frieza and Meta-Cooler and with a single blast he takes the two galactic tyrants out.
The mysterious Warrior in Black appears before Meta-Cooler and attacks, hurtling him into the sky before taking his Two-Star Dark Dragon Ball. Frieza goes after the warrior next though he is effortlessly overpowered and once again, the warrior takes the One-Star Dark Dragon Ball from him. The Warrior in Black turns his attention next towards Broly, gesturing him to follow after him as they take off across the sky. The Crimson-Masked Saiyan appears before Goku and Hearts and urges the two to keep fighting. Hearts asks if he is one of Fu's followers though he is cryptic with his answer and immediately takes his leave.
Hearts tosses Goku a Senzu Bean that he had found in his time before the confrontations and Goku recovers from his injuries. Hearts then brings out the Four-Star Dragon Ball and tells Goku that if the Senzu Bean had the same effect in this Space-Time then the same should be true for the Dragon Balls as well. The two decide to collect all seven of the Dragon Balls and use them to escape from the Space-Time. They both head to Capsule Corporation where Goku collects the Dragon Radar. Turning it on, he picks up two signals, one of which belongs to Hearts and other up above them.

Up past the clouds, Planet Vegeta looms near to Earth. A top Vegeta's Palace, a wounded Vegeta is shown engaged in a battle against Turles and Cumber. Vegeta charges at Cumber, but is easily blasted away and suffers severe damage. Cumber is suddenly ambushed by Turles, who tells Cumber that he should've remembered him. Turles goes on to claim that he is the strongest Saiyan thanks to continuously eating the Fruits of the Tree of Might and thereby gaining endless evil power from it. As Cumber and Turles fight each other, Goku and Hearts teleport there and immediately notices the unconscious Vegeta.
Suddenly, the Crimson-Masked Saiyan arrives and informs Goku that he is his opponent before transforming into a Super Saiyan Rosé. Goku realizes that this is indeed Goku Black, revived through unknown means. Black proclaims that he will defeat his original counterpart and prove himself to be superior. Goku goes Super Saiyan Blue and the two fight, with Hearts following after them transforming into Super Hearts.
Vegeta manages to recover, wondering how and why Goku Black is alive and in the Pseudo Universe, but is then punched into a wall by Turles before being ambushed himself by Cumber. As Turles continues his fight with Cumber, Vegeta gets back up. Turles attempts to corrupt Vegeta using his Evil Aura. As this happens, Vegeta remembers several of his past deeds. He reasons if the nature of Saiyans is truly evil or not, and then remembers his death at the hands of Frieza and Goku's battle with Kid Buu. Finally, Vegeta proclaims that it is wrong and manages to overcome the corruption, making that power his own.

Turles replies that if it means that he will become a low-class Saiyan again, then he is fine with that.
Turning his attention to a nearby energy signature, Vegeta is shocked to see that Goku Black has just defeated Goku and Hearts, holding the former by the neck. Vegeta begins to charge up a Galick Gun and Black promptly tosses Goku aside. Staring at Vegeta, he recalls what Fu had told him about Vegeta's current form and that the limitations of Vegeta's body would soon catch up to him. Realising that the mystery Saiyan is from an alternate timeline, Black explains that, as he crossed various timelines, he encountered, battled and killed Goku in every one. His current fight with Goku on Planet Vegeta marks his 100th encounter with Goku.

Black curses his meddling before he teleports himself away, just as Planet Vegeta explodes. Vegeta asks why Cell saved them but he tells them to be patient and hear what he has to say. Two other figures then appear behind the group with Goku and Vegeta surprised at their identity.

Vegeta asks Cell why he is here and as it turns out, he was brought back from Hell by Shroom who arrives with Salsa and Putine. Shroom explains that Cell is helping them to stop the Crimson-Masked Saiyan who seeks to destroy all mortal kind. Vegeta mistrusts Cell with the bio-android saying that he has no intention of helping beyond the current problem. However in his mind, Cell knows that he will not return to Hell so easily after being there for so long. Unknown to Cell, Hearts reads his mind though decides to keep his intentions between themselves.
